National Trust Levant Mine and Beam Engine

High-up on the exposed cliffs of the 'Tin Coast' and part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. At its heart is the restored 1840s beam engine running on steam. Open by pre-booked tours.

Levant Mine and Beam Engine sits on the rugged cliffs of the ‘Tin Coast’, part of the Cornish Heritage World Mining Site. Visit the main site by pre-booking a guided tour. Follow in the footsteps of those who worked and lived here to learn of Levant’s industry and tragedy. As part of the tour you’ll see the steam-powered beam engine, built in 1840 and the only one of its kind, the skip shaft, man engine tunnel and winder house. Family friendly tours are offered during school holidays as well as the main tour.

Explore the wider site including the count house ruins, miner’s ‘dry’ area and towering chimney stacks, where you can observe the diverse natural habitats, home to local wildlife including the rare Cornish chough.

Open by pre-booked guided tours. Assistance dogs only are allowed on the tours. There is accessible parking and accessible toilet facilities on site. For any accessibility needs please see the webpage or call the Levant office.
