    Tea with Jeremy Wilson

A fascinating talk about the history of Camellias

On arrival, enjoy a cup of tea while taking in the view from Trebah house before learning about Camellias and their history.

Tea has been drunk for over 2000 years in China and Japan. It only found its way to Britain 300 years ago but we fell in love with it straight away and have been fascinated by it ever since. This might be a simple drink but it has a dark side and links to some major historical events. Learn about the plant and its history.

Following a varied horticultural career, Jeremy now runs his own nursery – Strete Gate Camellias in Devon – which never fails to impress with its collection of more than 500 varieties including 100 types of scented plants. Jeremy acts as steward and judge for RHS camellia competitions, and has won medals himself at RHS shows and at the Malvern Spring Flower Show. Ticket price includes a tea or coffee.

The Cornish Bird - Forgotten Women of the Cornish Coast

Discover the fascinating lives of some feisty ladies who once lived around the coast of Cornwall

Cornish writer, Elizabeth Dale, has been publishing her blog 'The Cornish Bird' since 2016 and in that time she has delighted in discovering many lesser known stories from Cornwall's past. In this talk she introduces us to a wide range of feisty female characters, all with connections to our coast and all now faded into obscurity. Their stories, ordinary and extraordinary, help to illustrate why she finds Cornish history so endlessly fascinating and exciting.
