The Clay Trails
Surrounding the Cornish town of St Austell and its neighbouring villages is a landscape well known for its clay tips and pits, created by the 250 year old clay mining industry. This striking and dramatic scenery, visible from distances of many miles, has been made more accessible by the development of trails for walking, cycling and horse riding. This former industrial area is being transformed by tree-planting and careful environmental management creating a haven for wildlife.
Cornwall's scenic clay trails were first opened in March 2005 and since then new trails have continued to be made available, enabling visitors to enjoy this unique area of Cornwall. Discover these quiet pathways and enjoy the beauty and sense of peace they offer.
