Praa Sands Beach
Praa Sands Beach is a beautiful mile of fine white sand on the south-west coast that lies within Cornwall's National Landscape (formally known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty); bordered by wild headlands and backed by grass-topped sand dunes.
Easily accessible, it’s a popular choice for families who seek the sand and the shallows, whilst the untamed Atlantic swell and powerful waves will test even the most experienced surfers.
Full lifeguard cover will resume from 29th of April to 24th of September. Weekend cover will remain from 30th of September to 15th of October, with half-term cover from 21st to 29th of October. Patrol times are between 10am and 6pm. (2023)
Please note: Dogs are welcome on this beach except between July 1st and August 31st (10am - 6pm) when a seasonal dog ban is in place. (2023)
The beach’s geological features have also gained it recognition as a Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological Site (RIGS), after erosion exposed a thin layer of 2000 year-old peat once buried deep below the sand dunes.
