Porthchapel Beach

Porthchapel Beach is an archetypal Cornish cove; with rocky headlands covered by wildflowers and sea-beaten flora spilling into its turquoise sea, and an untouched stretch of golden sand.

This wild, south facing cove is beautifully secluded and sheltered by the cliffs, and is only accessible to those able to reach it down a very steep rocky path.

Above the beach is the holy well of St Levan, its water still used for baptisms in the Parish church. The well is also believed to have been the site of small medieval chapel, of which its stone steps were excavated in the 1930s, and could date back as far as the eighth century which would make it the oldest Christian chapel in Cornwall.

From the 1st of May to 30th September (8am to 7pm) dogs are not allowed below the mean high tide line, but they are allowed all year above the mean high tide line.
