East Looe Beach
A long-time favourite with holidaymakers, East Looe beach is a perfect location for swimming or just lazing about.
East Looe Beach is a Cornish classic; golden sands, gentle waves and a sheltered bay thanks to its unique Banjo pier. It has been welcoming families, holidaymakers, swimmers and paddlers year-round for many years.
Backed by sea defences (known locally as 'the blocks') where you can sit and watch the world go by, you can also explore the rockpools that form on the east side of the beach as the tide goes out.
The centre of Looe is just a walk away making it a hotspot during the busier summer months, whilst the coastline provides an escape to those looking to leave the crowds and get back to nature.
Sand chairs for the disabled available for hire, please contact East Looe Town Trust Seafront Workshops on 01503 263709
Sand chairs are provided by Cornwall Mobility in partnership with Disability Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.
Please Note: A dog ban is in place all year long

Looking back
As early as 1800 the beach at Looe had a bathing machine, but it wasn't very popular and soon, battered by winter storms, fell into disrepair. By the late 1880s, and with the arrival of tourists to Looe by train, it was decided to install bathing machines again, as this picture from Looe's Muesum shows.
Bathers could change into their swimming gear inside the machines which were then pushed into the water. Bathing over, and without showing any bare flesh to other beach users, the machines were pulled back up the beach and out of the water.
You can view 100's of other images of Looe's past at the town's museum.
