Porth Beach
Porth Beach is an award-winning Newquay beach, and a popular narrow stretch of golden sand and turquoise water situated between the town of Newquay and Watergate Bay. Flanked and sheltered by two vast headlands, the spectacular beach welcomes visitors, locals, and surfers year-round. As of 2024, Porth Beach has been awarded the Seaside Award which celebrates the commitment to environment, water quality, and safety of the beach.
Lifeguards are on patrol between 10am-6pm each day between 18th May to 29th September. (2024)
Please note: Dogs are banned from the beach between 1st July and 31st August, between the hours of 10am and 6pm. Dogs are welcome at all other times.
Overlooking Porth Beach is Porth Island, or ‘Trevelgue Head,’ a prominent Newquay landmark; with history dating back to the Mesolithic period, eight thousand years ago. In 1939 the site underwent extensive archaeological examination, with discoveries revealing evidence of an Iron Age promontory fort, two Bronze Age round barrows and the foundations of several large roundhouses.
