Porthoustock Beach

Porthoustock Beach, known locally as ‘Pro'stock,’ is an east-facing pebble beach with a large expanse of coarse grey sand and shingle revealed at low tide, and a popular area for divers with many shipwrecks to be explored around the treacherous reef, The Manacles.

This sheltered bay on the eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula has been a quarry and shipping port for stone since the 1890s; evident by the overshadowing concrete silo, once used to store aggregate, that now sits disused at the end of the beach, whilst at the other end, there is a quay which was used to load the stone onto the boats.

Swimming should be done with care.

Parking is allowed at the back of the beach taking care not to obstruct the boats of the local fishermen. There are toilets behind the beach and some picturesque thatched cottages.
