Welcome to The Chalet At Downderry

Self-Catering Accommodation in Downderry, Near Looe Located in the heart of the Rame Peninsula on Cornwall’s stunning south coast, Downderry is a charming village perfect for a relaxing getaway. With a population of around 900, this tranquil spot is nestled between sea cliffs and a beautiful beach where the Seaton River meets the shore. The beach, a mix of grey sand and shingle, offers breathtaking views stretching to the Eddystone Lighthouse and St. George’s Island near Looe.

Downderry’s history is steeped in tales of smuggling, where contraband goods like silk, brandy, and spices were once brought ashore. Today, visitors might spot local fishermen unloading fresh lobster and crab. The village showcases a blend of architectural charm, from the picturesque St. Nicholas Church, built in 1905, to whitewashed cottages and houses that line the streets.

While the village has a small selection of shops, it offers a delightful café, a tapas restaurant, and the welcoming Inn on the Shore, a pub with stunning sea views. For those who love the outdoors, the area features scenic coastal paths and rugged seashores, ideal for leisurely walks and exploration.
